Default Do you notice or even care – Weapons

My new monk uses 2 crafter staffs, a ‘20/20 healing prayers, +5 energy, +30hp’ & a ‘20/20 healing prayers, +60hp’.

I’ll admit they look terrible but to buy 2 perfect gold staffs with these specs would probably cost 10 times, or more, what it cost to craft these two.

I very rarely notice what other players are ‘wielding’ and I’m sure my teams mates could nor care less what I was using as long as they stayed alive, as I don’t really care about theirs if they are getting the job done. The exception being the visually obvious ones such as storm bows, chaos axes and the like, then I’ll notice briefly.

So, are you crafter or are you the must have type?

(thoughts on weapons only please as I myself can be a bit of a tart with armour).

I never buy weapons, only sell.

Nowadays crafters can make perfect stat weapons/items so I dont see much need to spend 100K just on looks not to mention I personally prefer (for instance) the Katana skin to something like a wicked or gothic sword but thats taste.

If there is a green or gold I really want I'll try to get it for myself, that is, the hard way by getting it to drop for me.

I would be far happier being in a PuG and noticing a team mate with a collectors Holy Staff, rather than a Brohn's Staff. Why? The Brohn's may look cooler, but the collectors has the better stats. And it is ALL about the stats.

i am both depending on the character. some weapons for monk and stuff i will craft or get a green. but my warrior and my assasin it has to be gold and something i like. like 15^50 zealous dragon scythes or kanaixai s edge now those cannot be crafted lol

For me it's all about the stats as well. Untill I find something along the way, I always use collectors/crafters. There are skins out there I would love to have, but I wait for them to drop.

Yep, I fully agree.

Maybe they're overdoing this though.. There's barely anything that you can't get easily now when it comes to stats.

One of the things that was discussed in depth way back prior to Guild Wars initial release was that this game was going to be different. It was going to depend MUCH more on the proper use of various skills and team builds than it was on "elite" weapons and items. Anet and NCSoft also said that the really "good stuff" would be readily acheivable for even the casual player.

Well, I do believe that they have maintained that premise. I vary....some items I like the skin, but frankly, if it does not have the stats to go with it...what is the point? I have used largely collectors type items (including armor in numerous cases) for the 1+ year that I have played. The stats are usually maxed and the item is cheap and/or free.

Way to go Anet. Keep it up. I dig this game as much now as I ever have.

I still like the game I'm more busy finding new builds (especially since the new Factions skills), doing quests, doing missions, leveling, PvP'ing etc, but I'd still like to see some more items that are really special, and that cost you hours to grind or something, just so I have something to farm in PvE

I use either a modded collectors item or greens if theyre exactly what I'm looking for (only Sskias Sword and Kepkhets Refuge *probably spelt wrong* has been so far though - there is a green curses staff 20/20 +5energy +1(20%)curses I believe, which is nice, but my collectors staff is already the same as that).

Some people that play have incredible amounts of money, so if they can afford to buy the really nice skinned stuff to customise it then fair play to them, but I probably wouldn't be paying much attention to what weapon theyre holding playing monk most of the time (using 20/20 heal collectors staff with +5 energy and +1(20%) healing)

Usually if I want to use/customise a weapon I go for green/collectors, all the decent golds I get I try to sell hehe

I care about my own weapon skins. I think it's more fun playing with an awesome looking character than with some wooden-stick char. Other people may not care about it, but I do.

stats are still more important tho. 1st I always get collector's weapon, then I go and look for a nice weapon with equilavent stats.

and I prefer a great looking weapon with +28 hp and 9/10 to a perfect 10/10 +30 hp collector's.

I don't care what my weapon looks like as long as it gets the job done. Heck,I only carry The Shadestone with me for the +health it gives.

I completely agree. I rarely ever look at someone else's weapon and I don't really care what mine looks like as long as it has the stats I want.

What else do you spend your accumulated wealth on then? I save up until I can afford stats AND eye candy.

A bit of both tbh. Maybe stats first tho, because no matter how good it looks, if it doesn't have the stats I won't use it.

My necro, for example, uses a collectors staff. Whereas my warrior just got through factions and obtained an exaulted aegis to replace her current shield (a weaponsmiths bronze shield with exactly the same stats).

My main character (ranger) uses a mixture of both, a collectors 15^50 shortbow, Elswyths Recurve, and a zodiac longbow (even tho i'm using it based primarily on looks it is 15 all -5en and has it's uses).

I would rather have a perfect stats collectors than an average unique.

well obviously, stats always comes first because you would benefit more from having a perfect item more than the coolest looking one in the game but 1% off of perfect or something. that said, i didnt know that items and armors had different skins until about a month ago. i have never noticed a landscape or seen what an attack with a certain weapon looks like and my graphics are set to the lowest resolution. it really doesnt matter. however, if you have the money, there is nothing better to do with it, so there is nothing bad about going for the best looking items, as long as you are able to retain the stats that you desire. if you can get the best looking items with perfect stats, more power to you, but if you are bidding on a +29 health always -5 received damage (19%) zodiac shield for hundreds of platinum in the high end forum, i think its time for an intervention.

My monk uses wands/foci from collectors - they have the stats that I want and I don't really care for the looks of those.

I will buy the best looking stuff for my warrior though since I have nothing else to spend my money on.

It's the chicken or the egg.

Are you accumulating wealth to acquire the pretty skinned items?

Or are you taking the wealth you accumulated by playing and enjoying the game (rather than grinding) and getting a little reward for your efforts?

Too many people do the former.
